Ashtanga Yoga Morjim is dedicated to the traditional lineage of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, Shri R. Sharath Jois and Shri R. Saraswati Jois. The shala is nestled under coconut palm trees on ancestral land of five generations in Goa, India and is an homage to a simple life.
Daily Mysore style classes are taught by KPJAYI Certified teacher Sharmila Desai. Sharmila is an author, long-time Ashtanga yoga practitioner, gardener and mother of two. Her teachings come from daily devotion and direct transmission from guru to shishya over many years. Sharmila continues to make regular pilgrimages to study with her teacher Paramaguru R. Sharath Jois in Mysore, cherishing her time to be a student and to go deeper into the ocean that is yoga.
Ashtanga Yoga Morjim welcomes practitioners of all stages of life and practice including families, families to be, young, elderly, beginners, those further along....everyone.
Morjim Village is located at the confluence of the Chapora river estuary and the Arabian sea. It is a quiet village with a traditional local community and the coast serves as a nesting area of the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtle.
Home to many religious communities, Goa is mythologically associated with a spiritually cleansing touch. Our village houses a chapel built in 1857 that later became Our Lady of Miracles church in 1903. Amidst natural surroundings also lies a heritage temple dedicated to the goddess Shri Morjai.
Ashtanga Yoga Morjim is an effort to live in harmony with simplicity, nature and heritage.
We look forward to opening our doors and sharing our sanctuary with all of you.
